Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today is a time to stop and give thanks. Our freedom has been bought by others sacrificing their lives. Let us give thanks to God for them and pray for their souls. In gratitude today, we are reminded about what allows us to live in peace and not take our freedom for granted.
Lest we forget.
To commemorate Remembrance Day, the children participated in a liturgy reverently led by Mrs O’Callaghan and Year 3/4 Blue. We were lucky to have some of our serving parents, Captain Michael Sander from the Royal Australian Navy, Lieutenant John Daunt Royal Australian Army, Flight Lieutenant Kellee Francis and Squadron Leader Mark Powell both Royal Australian Airforce participate in our liturgy as well. Today we were privileged to have a bugler from Narrabundah College play the Last Post and the Rouse. In military tradition, the Last Post is the bugle call that signifies the end of the day's activities, so an appropriate inclusion in today’s liturgy.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae (1872–1918)
God bless.
